+ Building In-Camp Economies  +

Refugees living in Rwanda are stuck in a kind of limbo - they're unable to return home and yet wholly dependent on the services provided by humanitarian organizations. In this situation, finding ways to provide for yourself and your family is a constant struggle. In Nyabiheke camp, one group of tailors decided to look within the camp to find a solution. Already skilled at sewing all the tailors needed was the right customer. Who better to approach than organizations within the camp? With purchasing power and the task of procuring supplies for their programs, NGOs were the perfect customer! With the help of ARC, the tailoring cooperative contracted with the NGO primarily responsible for providing education services within Nyabiheke camp. The tailors made school uniforms that were then used within the camp. Creating a link between customers and markets is foundational to building in-camp economies that will be a source of sustainable incomes and brighter futures for refugees and their families.

+ Second Asili Clinic Prepares to Open +

A bustling hub of economic activity, it's easy to see why the village of Karambi is the perfect site for the second Asili clinic. After months of work and dedication, the building of the second clinic has been completed! After receiving some final touches, the clinic will provide a community of nearly 10,000 people with high-quality health care. In addition to clinic services, Asili water points and agricultural cooperatives provide the community with a bundle of social enterprises that aim to stimulate the local economy and improve wellbeing.
