Just 12 Hours More!

Hi jay-

There are just 12 hours left in 2014 for you to make a charitable contribution. If you've already made your gift for this year - THANK YOU SO MUCH! If you're still considering a year-end gift to ARC, you can make yours here: http://www.ARCrelief.org/donate .

On this day last year, we raised $61,289.40! We still have $43,789.40 to raise today before we achieve that goal.

We can do it! Will you help us get there? Every donation in any amount makes a difference for the families ARC serves throughout the world.

Thank you for your generosity and your partnership. I wish you and your family a happy and healthy new year.

Sincerely,

-Daniel

A Gift X 2!

Hello jay,

Today is the perfect moment to give.

Holly Myers - a tireless advocate for refugees and an ARC donor since 1994 - has volunteered with three others to match all donations up to $55,000, until December 31. So far, we've only raised $30,000 towards that goal. We need your help.

Will you make a gift now at www.ARCrelief.org/55match and make twice the difference? You can also call us at (800) 875-7060 and make your gift over the phone.

We absolutely must achieve this goal if we are to start out strong in 2015. You can help us do that. And, you'll be making double the impact for all we serve, who are working to rebuild their lives after tragedy.

Thank you for your continuing support and happy holidays!

Sincerely,

-Daniel

Two For The Money

Hello jay,

You might have been planning to make a donation before the year ends. Or maybe (like me) you've been so busy this time of year, you've barely had a spare moment to think about it. Whatever your situation, this is a great time to give because your donation will be matched 100 percent! But not for long...

Holly Myers - a tireless advocate for refugees and an ARC donor since 1994 - has volunteered with three others to match all donations, up to $55,000 until December 31. But their challenge probably won't last that long. We're currently on track to reach the goal by the 26th.

That means - if you want to make twice the difference with your gift - you should act now. You can donate at www.ARCrelief.org/55match or call us at (800) 875-7060 and make your gift over the phone.

You will make double the impact in helping mothers and babies survive childbirth, providing kids with and education, ensuring safe drinking water and preventing the spread of disease.

Thank you for your continuing support and happy holidays!

Sincerely,

-Daniel

Double Your Impact!

Dear jay,

I have some exciting news. Your donation made by December 31 will be matched 100 percent!

Holly Myers - a tireless advocate for refugees and an ARC donor since 1994 - has volunteered with three others to match all donations, up to $55,000 this December. That means when you give now, your money will go twice as far to give people the tools they need to get back control of their lives.

Will you make a gift now and help us take advantage of this incredible opportunity: www.ARCrelief.org/55match ?

Your gift will make double the impact in helping mothers and babies survive childbirth, providing kids with and education, ensuring safe drinking water and preventing the spread of disease.

Thank you for your continuing support and happy holidays!

Sincerely,

-Daniel

Inside ARC - 12.11.14 - Person of the Year, Fishermen

Hi jay,

Here's an update on what's been happening around ARC the last couple weeks. If you have any questions, please do contact us.

We try to keep these updates focused on the impact our community of supporters makes possible and the ways we're working to help people in need. But as the year draws to a close, I need to ask if you'll consider making a donation to help ARC start out 2015 strong. If you've already made your donations for the year, please accept my sincere thanks. If you're still thinking about it, we could really use your support. You can make a gift online at www.ARCrelief.org/donate.

*TIME Magazine Person of the Year - The Ebola Fighter*

“They risked and persisted, sacrificed and saved” - TIME has selected the Ebola Fighters for Person of the Year 2014. We couldn’t agree more. The American Refugee Committee salutes our own Ebola Response Team and all of the aid and health workers from our colleague organizations who’ve been on the ground fighting Ebola since the very beginning of the outbreak. They put themselves in harm’s way in order to provide relief to people infected with the virus. They ran the risk of being infected themselves so that they could provide patients with world-class care and stop the epidemic in its tracks! I'm humbled by their sacrifice and heroism.

*"Teach a man to fish,...*

…and you feed him for a lifetime.” – so the proverb goes. Alongside the Fisheries Ministry, our staff in Somalia are training young men in Kismayo in southern Somalia to become fishermen. Participants undergo a three week course in fishing tackle and skills training. On completing the course, groups of 8 fishermen receive a simple boat and fishing equipment they can use to immediately start up a fishing business to support themselves and their families. The men participating in the program are mostly youth under the age of 30 – many of them have recently returned to Somalia from living abroad as refugees in Kenya’s Dadaab Refugee Camp or elsewhere. Before the twenty year conflict in Somalia, the port of Kismayo had a healthy fishing industry. Our team in Somalia looks forward to training more youth to be fishermen and helping revive the industry, as a whole. Here’s a recent article recognizing the program: http://horseedmedia.net/2014/12/10/somalia-refugees-turn-to-fishing-in-kismayo/

*You Make The World Better*

This month we’re highlighting all the amazing people in the ARC community through a campaign called You Make The World Better. Would you consider nominating someone you know who makes the world a better place? It doesn’t matter what they’re doing or where – just that they’re out in the world doing good work! You can submit a nomination using this link: http://umaketheworldbetter.wordpress.com/nominate-someone-2/

Here’s an example of an inspiring submission from Arafa Sheikmusa, an ARC staff member in Sudan, who nominated her primary school teacher, Thoraya Norri: https://www.facebook.com/ARCrelief/photos/a.100037827461.95028.18213037461/10152580790282462/?type=1

Thank You on #GivingTuesday!

Hello jay!

It’s Giving Tuesday in the United States - the perfect opportunity for us to give thanks to you for being a part of the American Refugee Committee community. As a supporter, you help make so much possible.

So, today, I want to give you an idea of just what you’ve made happen over the past year:

Ebola Response – ARC’s team is on the ground, about to take over an Ebola Treatment Unit in eastern Liberia. We’re providing lifesaving treatment to stop the devastation Ebola has caused so many families.

Darfur Doubled – We expanded and now help well over 700,000 people with clean water, health care, and other lifesaving services in this region of Sudan.

Zero Transmission – We have stopped the transmission of HIV from mother to child in Gihembe and Nyabiheke refugee camps in Rwanda.

Myanmar Program – We launched in eastern Myanmar helping communities fight drug-resistant malaria.

And Opened Asili – In pursuit of new approaches to humanitarian relief, we designed and launched a new social enterprise zone for families of modest means in DRC. For a few dollars, they can get clean water, see a doctor or purchase medicines – our hope is that we’ve created a platform for families to access essential services long after organizations like ARC have left.

That’s the tip of the iceberg. As a supporter you help us respond around the world – at any given moment – where the needs are greatest. You help us be there when people need us most.

Please know how much we value and rely on your support. We couldn’t do what we do without you.

Sincerely,

-Daniel
