Inside ARC - 7.24.13 - Syria, Darfur

Hi jay,

I can't say it enough - thanks so much for being a part of ARC. I'm often reminded how lucky we are to have so many great people working with us to make a difference in the world. Thank you for being on the team.

Below is my update on recent ARC events. Please let us know if you have questions or want more info.

*Syria Update*

Last week, ARC aid workers Graham Eastmond and Lauren Bienkowski were interviewed on Public Radio about the Syrian refugee crisis. Eastmond and Bienkowski had recently returned from Jordan where they were working in Za’tari refugee camp, current home to 160,000 Syrians. They share what life is like in the growing camp. Listen to their interview here: http://bit.ly/1bcq0jL .

*Darfur Events*

Since my last update, there’s been more tragedy in the Darfur region of Sudan. Seven UN Peacekeepers from Tanzania were killed in an ambush in South Darfur. Civilians have also been killed as violence and insecurity force families to flee their homes for the promise of safety elsewhere.

Closely monitoring the security situation, our team continues working throughout South Darfur. The needs of families who’ve been displaced are greatly outpacing the resources of humanitarian agencies working in Darfur. More help is needed. Families require basics like clean water, shelter, latrines and emergency supplies.

*Message for Aid Workers*

Recently, we received a heart-warming package from a young supporter named Morgen at our headquarters office. She included a donation and a note for our staff in the field around the world. “Thank you for being there when people need you. Helping others, saving lives, and making people smile.” Here’s the note from Morgen: http://on.fb.me/13amOvV

Thank you, Morgen!
