+ Music Collaboration in Dong Yang Camp, Thailand +

Every year we hold a global ideas competition with our staff around the world. We love seeing the inspiring, new ideas that are submitted. This year, we were excited to see one of these ideas come to life in Thailand. Facilitated by ARC and Playing for Change, an organization using music to connect people around the world, this Changemaker idea brought together kids in Dong Yang refugee camp for a two day music workshop including creative, visual arts projects and music lessons. For young kids stuck inside the confines of a refugee camp, the workshop provided a much-needed creative outlet. One participating staff member remarked, "The participants so thoroughly enjoyed the activity and lost track of time while participating because they were so involved." A group from Minneapolis had the chance to travel to Dong Yang to participate in the workshop and production of a music video.

+ Building In-Camp Economies  +

Refugees living in Rwanda are stuck in a kind of limbo - they're unable to return home and yet wholly dependent on the services provided by humanitarian organizations. In this situation, finding ways to provide for yourself and your family is a constant struggle. In Nyabiheke camp, one group of tailors decided to look within the camp to find a solution. Already skilled at sewing all the tailors needed was the right customer. Who better to approach than organizations within the camp? With purchasing power and the task of procuring supplies for their programs, NGOs were the perfect customer! With the help of ARC, the tailoring cooperative contracted with the NGO primarily responsible for providing education services within Nyabiheke camp. The tailors made school uniforms that were then used within the camp. Creating a link between customers and markets is foundational to building in-camp economies that will be a source of sustainable incomes and brighter futures for refugees and their families.

+ Second Asili Clinic Prepares to Open +

A bustling hub of economic activity, it's easy to see why the village of Karambi is the perfect site for the second Asili clinic. After months of work and dedication, the building of the second clinic has been completed! After receiving some final touches, the clinic will provide a community of nearly 10,000 people with high-quality health care. In addition to clinic services, Asili water points and agricultural cooperatives provide the community with a bundle of social enterprises that aim to stimulate the local economy and improve wellbeing.

Hello jay,

+ Thank You For 2015!  +

With the support of the ARC community in 2015, we were able to help more than 3 million people in 12 countries around the world. We responded to major emergencies, including the crisis in Syria and the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. And, we continued our work as the primary and reproductive health care provider for millions of people in places like Sudan and South Sudan.

On behalf of our more than 1,600 team members worldwide, thank you so much. We couldn't do this without you. Some of our team recorded this thank you video for you: https://youtu.be/eXeDrhEzfxs

+ Medical Training for Young Afghan Refugees +

Our staff in Pakistan were amazed! Thanks to funding from the U.S. State Department's Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration, they were able to create a 1-year multi-disciplined medical training program for Afghan refugee youth living in Pakistan. When they put the word out about the program in the newspaper and on FM radio, they were astounded to receive more than 1,000 applications for just 120 available spots.

The program just launched and the students – aged 16-20 – are enthusiastic to change their lives and be able to return home and serve their communities with the new skills they're learning.

+ 16 Days of Activism +

Every year starting on November 25, communities around the world stand up to fight violence against women and girls during the 16 Days of Activism campaign. ARC teams – from Pakistan to South Sudan, Uganda to Thailand, Somalia to Syria – organized dozens of events all with the goal of creating safe spaces for women and girls living in communities that have been affected by disaster. Activities included speech and debate competitions and community conversations and discussions. There were also sporting events, musical celebrations, painting competitions, puppet shows and games – all with the goal of building awareness and inspiring action to prevent violence against women and girls.

Getting There!

Hello jay,

A few days ago I sent you a note about ARC's December matching challenge. I'm happy to say we've made progress towards the goal! We have $25,507 left to raise between now and the end of the year. Will you consider helping us once more before 2015 comes to a close? Your donation made by December 31 will be matched 100 percent!

Holly Myers - a tireless advocate for refugees and an ARC donor since 1994 - has volunteered with a group of others to match all donations, up to $62,000 this December. When you give now, you'll be going twice as far to help people struggling to survive crises and get back control of their lives.

If you've already sent in a gift, THANK YOU! If you haven't yet made your gift, will you help us take advantage of this incredible opportunity: www.ARCrelief.org/62match ?

Thank you for your continuing support and happy holidays!

Sincerely,

-Daniel

Double Your Impact!

Hello jay,

THANK YOU. It's because of support from people like you that ARC has been able to step up to the ever mounting challenges of the global refugee crisis.

That means when you give now, you'll go twice as far to help people struggling to survive crises and get back control of their lives.

If you've already sent in a gift, THANK YOU! If you haven't yet made your gift, will you help us take advantage of this incredible opportunity: www.ARCrelief.org/62match ?

Your gift will make double the impact in helping mothers and babies survive childbirth, providing kids with an education, ensuring safe drinking water and preventing the spread of disease...in Congo, Syria, Myanmar and around the world.

Thank you for your continuing support and happy holidays!

Sincerely,

-Daniel

Inside ARC - 12.10.15 - ARC Team Designs Mobile App and Hello from Zaatari Refugee Camp

Hello jay,

+ South Sudan Team Creates Mobile App to Improve Healthcare  +

In remote regions of South Sudan, our team works hard to provide critical healthcare services. Every moment is crucial and information can be lifesaving.  Which is why our team designed a text messaging (SMS) app to much more quickly provide important alerts about possible outbreaks and more easily send public health reports to county officials. Previously, in order to submit their reports, health workers had to shutter health facilities and hand-deliver their paper reports. And the communities they served could be without medical care for days. This new mobile phone-based tool has been introduced in three of the counties in South Sudan where ARC is working. It has been so successful that the Ministry of Health has requested ARC to scale it up with hopes of introducing it nationwide!

+ Hello From Zaatari Refugee Camp +

Our CEO Daniel Wordsworth just returned from a tour of the Middle East where he met with leaders in Dubai, Doha, Amman, and Abu Dhabi. While in Jordan, he met with volunteers leaders in Zaatari Refugee Camp who run the youth center set up by our partners at Questscope earlier this year. The youth center in Zaatari Refugee Camp is led and run by Syrian refugees. They offer classes in film making, photography, art, dance and exercise. They also gather for daily volleyball games and run a free library in the compound.
