This year, the day comes with some discouraging news: in 2012, more people became refugees or internally displaced people than at any time since 1994, according to the United Nations. World Refugee Day is a day to raise awareness of the situation of refugees around the world. I want to thank you for taking time out of your life to pause and consider the experience of refugees AND for being part of a global network of support for people who’ve lost so much. You can set up your gift online at www.ARCrelief.org/monthlygiving or call us at (800) 875-7060.   *A Boost for Young Entrepreneurs in Somalia*   Youth unemployment is 67 percent in Somalia, and the vast majority of young people have been denied an education as a result of the last twenty years of conflict. ARC is delighted to announce a partnership with Dahabshiil, the largest international payments firm in Africa, and Silatech, the largest provider of youth-focused microenterprise services in the Middle East and North Africa, to promote youth enterprise development and provide employment solutions in the Somali territories. Together, the partners will explore initiatives to promote youth entrepreneurship and self-employment opportunities as a means of alleviating poverty. Critical to the initiative is Dahabshiil Group’s suite of services and national network of money service outlets across Somalia. The partners will also look to leverage ARC’s strong presence within the international Somali diaspora, as well as Silatech’s experience using online crowd-funding platforms to finance young micro-entrepreneurs. ARC had previously also signed an agreement with Kaah Express – the second largest international payments firm in Somalia – to promote youth microenterprise development in Somalia on a national scale. *Tree Planting in Rwanda*   In March, ARC’s Rwanda team launched a tree planting initiative.  Through the project, the team will plant 30,000 seedlings in Kiziba Camp.
